2007년 설계 개념이 구상된 이후 Pentominium Tower 개발은 건축학적 포부의 상징으로 여겨졌다. 그러나 다른 많은 프로젝트와 마찬가지로 2008년 세계 금융 침체로 문제들에 직면하면서 건설이 중단되었다. 올해 초 이 개발 프로젝트는 두바이 법원이 행정 절차를 승인하면서 Emirates Auction을 통해 경매에 부쳐졌다. Select Group은 총 46회에 달하는 입찰로 치열했던 경쟁에서 살아남으며 미화 1억 달러라는 최종 입찰금으로 낙찰에 성공했다.
