Armed Forces Day is an annual event observed to celebrate the heroic sacrifices of men and women in arms in defense of the Liberian state. According to reports, in the 19th century, Liberia was protected by a militia, prior to the formation of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL), by an act of the National Legislature, and declared the day, as a National Holiday, followed with festivities, including military parades and ceremonies in honor of veterans and recognition of the Armed Forces protecting the territorial integrity of Liberia from foreign aggression.
