[PRNewswire] 2021년 글로벌 에너지 프라이즈 수상자 발표

(모스크바 2021년 9월 6일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) 6일, 2021년 글로벌 에너지 프라이즈(Global Energy Prize)[https://globalenergyprize.org/en/2021/09/06/laureates-of-the-2021-global-energy-prize-announced/ ] 수상자가 카잔에서 발표됐다. 올해 수상자는 두 러시아 과학자 Zinfer Ismagilov와 Suleyman Alakhverdiev, 그리고 미국 학사원 회원 Yi Cui다.

Zinfer Ismagilov는 탄소 소재, 불균일 촉매 작용 및 기후 작용 화학에 대한 근원적인 기여를 인정받아 '전통적인 에너지(Conventional Energy)' 부문에서 수상자로 선정됐다.

Suleyman Alakhverdiev는 대체 에너지 개발, 인공 광합성 시스템 설계를 위한 과학적 성과, 바이오에너지와 수소 에너지 분야에서 과학 연구에 대한 우수한 기여를 인정받아 '비전통적인 에너지(Non-conventional energy)' 부문에서 수상자로 선정됐다.

Yi Cui는 에너지와 환경, 특히 배터리 과학의 변혁적 혁신을 위한 나노 소재 설계, 합성 및 특성화 부문에서 우수한 기여를 인정받아 '새로운 에너지 적용 방식(New ways of energy application)' 부문에서 수상자로 선정됐다.

글로벌 에너지 프라이즈 국제상 위원회(Global Energy Prize International Award Committee) 위원장이자 노벨평화상 수상자인 Rae Kwon Chung은 "글로벌 에너지 프라이즈는 세 명의 수상자를 선정함으로써 전통적인 에너지와 비전통적인 에너지 분야의 과학기술 혁신으로 청정에너지의 미래를 열 수 있다는 강력한 메시지를 전하고 있다"라며, "Sergey Brilev가 이끄는 Global Energy Association 사무국의 노고에 감사드린다. 덕분에 세계적으로 후보 추천 국가 수를 늘리고, 100명 이상의 신규 후보를 추천받을 수 있었다"고 말했다.

수상자 발표 행사는 카잔 시청에서 진행됐다. 갈라 행사에는 루스탐 민니하노프(Rustam Minnikhanov) 타타르스탄 대통령, Global Energy Association 회장 Sergey Brilev를 비롯해 국제상 위원회 심사위원인 헝가리 Marta Bonifert와 Dmitry Bassarabov 등이 참석했다. 한국의 정래권 교수는 영상 링크로 행사에 참여했다.

수상자 발표 전날 밤, 국제 위원회는 비공개로 수상자를 선정했다. 국제 위원회는 일부 부문에서 여섯 표를 받은 후보를 수상자로 선정했다. Global Energy Association은 지난 1년 반 동안 글로벌 에너지 프라이즈의 국제화를 위해 노력했고, 그 결과 이처럼 후보 간에 활발한 경쟁이 발생했다.

시상식은 10월에 열리는 러시아 에너지 주간(Russian Energy Week) 포럼 중에 열릴 예정이다.

다음 후보 지명은 올 12월 1일부터 시작된다.

Laureates of the 2021 Global Energy Prize Announced

MOSCOW, Sept. 6, 2021 /PRNewswire/ -- The winners of the 2021 Global Energy Prize [https://globalenergyprize.org/en/2021/09/06/laureates-of-the-2021-global-energy-prize-announced/ ] were announced on 6th September in Kazan. The laureates were: Russian scientists Zinfer Ismagilov and Suleyman Alakhverdiev, as well as American academic Yi Cui.

Zinfer Ismagilov was the winner in the category "Conventional Energy" for his fundamental contribution to the chemistry of carbon materials, heterogeneous catalysis, and climate action.

Suleyman Alakhverdiev became the laureate in the "Non-conventional energy" category for an outstanding contribution to the development of alternative energy, scientific achievements in the design of artificial photosynthesis systems, a cycle of scientific works in the field of bioenergy and hydrogen energy.

Yi Cui was selected in the category "New ways of energy application" for exceptional contributions in nanomaterials design, synthesis and characterisation for energy and the environment, particularly for transformational innovations in battery science.

The ceremony announcing the names of the laureates took place in the Kazan Town Hall. Taking part in the gala event were the President of the Republic of Tatarstan, Rustam Minnikhanov, the President of the Global Energy Association, Sergey Brilev, as well as members of the International Award Committee - Marta Bonifert from Hungary and Dmitry Bassarabov. Joining the event by video link was Rae Kwon Chung.

On the eve of the ceremony, the laureates were determined at a closed session of the International Committee. The Committee required six ballots to determine the winner in some categories. The spirited competition was the result of efforts to internationalise the Global Energy Prize undertaken by the association over the past year and a half.

The prize will be presented in October during the Russian Energy Week forum.

The new nomination cycle will open on 1st December 2021.
