(리야드, 사우디아라비아 2020년 11월 30일 PRNewswire=연합뉴스) 지난 목요일, 몇몇 국가의 선임 정부 관료들이 모여 Digital Cooperation Organization(DCO)의 출범을 후원했다. DCO는 모든 혁신 중심 영역에서 협력을 강화하고, 디지털 경제 성장을 가속하는 데 목표를 둔 단체다. 이 행사에는 ITU 사무총장 Houlin Zhao와 세계경제포럼 회장 Borge Brende가 참석했다.

바레인, 요르단, 쿠웨이트, 파키스탄 및 사우디아라비아가 설립한 DCO는 여성, 청년 및 기업인을 지원하고, 디지털 경제를 키우며, 혁신으로 도약함으로써 모두를 위한 디지털 미래를 실현하고자 하는 비전을 중심으로 한다.

사우디아라비아 통신정보기술부 장관 Abdullah Amer Al-Swaha는 "향후 3~5년 이내에 5개국의 연합 디지털 경제를 1조 달러 규모로 키우고자 하는 야심 하에, 청년, 여성 및 기업인을 위한 기회를 잡고자 디지털 협력 합의를 도모하기로 공동 약속했다"라며 "우리 미래의 번영은 디지털 경제에 달려 있다. 여러 나라의 정부가 기업 및 기업인들과 집단적으로 협력할 수 있어야만 디지털 경제가 온전한 잠재력을 발휘할 수 있다. 그래야만 생존하고 번성하며, 현 시장으로 깊이를 확장하고, 모두가 새로운 시장으로 들어갈 수 있도록 문을 열 수 있다"라고 언급했다.

DCO 출범 전, 사우디아라비아는 이 지역과 전 세계적으로 디지털 경제의 성장을 가속화 하는 자국의 모멘텀을 유지하기 위한 G20 의장국의 임기를 마쳤다. 또한, DCO의 출범은 세계 곳곳에서 여러 국가가 코로나19가 사회와 경제에 미친 영향을 극복하고 생존 및 번성하고자 원격 학습, 원격 의료 및 비접촉 경제 시스템의 채택률을 높이고 있는 것에 따른 것이기도 하다.

요르단 디지털 경제 및 창업부(Digital Economy & Entreprenurship) 장관 Ahmad Hanandeh는 "이는 혁신적이고, 미래에도 기능하는 디지털 경제를 확보하기 위한 중요한 단계"라며 "지속가능한 변화를 만들기 위해서는 따로 일해서는 안 된다. 집단적이고 세계적인 협력이 필요하다"라고 언급했다. 이어 그는 "이를 통해 각국의 디지털 여정이 교차하면서, 서로에게서 교훈을 얻을 수 있을 것"리면서 "이로 인해 청년과 여러 부문이 이와 같은 노력의 혜택을 볼 수 있도록 문을 열어줄 것"이라고 언급했다.

DCO는 디지털에 집중된 헌장을 바탕으로 민간 부문, 국제 단체, 비정부 기구 및 학계의 참여와 안내를 환영한다.

Five nations unite to launch the Digital Cooperation Organization to Realize a Digital Future for All

RIYADH, Saudi Arabia, Nov. 27, 2020 /PRNewswire/ -- Senior government officials from several nations patronized the launch of the Digital Cooperation Organization (DCO) Thursday - a global organization aimed at strengthening cooperation across all innovation driven areas and accelerating growth of the digital economy. The event was attended by H.E. Houlin Zhao ITU Secretary General and H.E. Borge Brende, President, World Economic Forum.

Founded by Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Pakistan, and Saudi Arabia, the DCO is driven by a vision to realize a digital future for all by empowering women, youth and entrepreneurs, growing the digital economy, and leapfrogging with innovation.

"We are joining hands together towards a commitment to drive consensus on digital cooperation to make sure that we seize an opportunity for our youth, our women and our entrepreneurs with the ambition to grow our combined digital economy to one trillion dollars in the next 3-5 years," said H.E. The launch of the DCO follows the conclusion of Saudi Arabia's G20 Presidency to maintain the Kingdom's momentum on accelerating the growth of the digital economy across the region and the globe, as nations everywhere increase their adoption of remote learning, telemedicine and contact-less economic systems to survive and thrive beyond the social and economic impact of COVID-19.
