Samsung cools the fastest, but LG is more energy-efficient: Test

Samsung Electronics’ wall-mounted air conditioner outperformed rivals in cooling speed while LG Electronics’ model proved more cost-efficient in terms of electricity consumption, according to a consumer report released Monday.

The Korea Consumer Agency evaluated five models currently sold in South Korea, including 7-pyeong units from LG Electronics (SQ07FS8EES) and Samsung Electronics (AR80F07D21WT), and 6-pyeong units from Lucoms Electronics (A06T04-W), Carrier (OARB-0061FAWSD), and Haier (HSU06QAHIW).

One pyeong equals approximately 3.3 square meters.

Samsung’s unit was the most expensive at 1,220,990 won ($890), followed by LG’s at 1,197,910 won. However, the Samsung model came with 25 additional features compared with LG’s 18. Carrier’s unit was priced at 499,000 won, Haier’s at 479,000 won, and Lucoms’ at 459,000 won.

The report also noted that Carrier’s model excelled in quiet operation.
