South Korea's first naval submarine, the ROKS Chang Bogo, has been officially retired after 34 years of service.

A decommissioning ceremony was held at the Navy's Submarine Command to honor the vessel that marked the beginning of the country's submarine force.

All warships moored in the naval port, including the Cheonghaejin submarine rescue ship, blow their horns.

With the commissioning pennant taken down, the official retirement of Korea's first naval submarine, the ROKS Chang Bogo, was declared.

Being part of the launch of Chang Bogo was the greatest honor of my life.
I hope the submarine command's proud tradition of victory continues forever.

Launched in Germany's Howaldtswerke shipyard in 1991, the ROKS Chang Bogo is a 1,200-ton diesel submarine.

It was recorded as the first submarine that participated in all major overseas training exercises for submarines.

The pioneering journey of Chang Bogo, which began Korea’s submarine history, will remain an enduring inspiration.

The decommissioned the ROKS Chang Bogo, which sailed 342,000 miles during its 34-year service, will be used for the support of the government's defense industry export ambitions.
