HD Hyundai affiliates, H-Line to co-develop AI autonomous ships

Three affiliates of South Korean conglomerate HD Hyundai Group and H-Line Shipping Co., a midsized Korean shipping company, have agreed to jointly develop artificial intelligence (AI)-based autonomous and eco-friendly ships.

HD Hyundai Group announced on Wednesday that HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering Co., HD Hyundai Marine Solution Co., Avikus, and H-Line Shipping have signed a strategic business agreement for the joint development of AI-based autonomous and eco-friendly ship technologies.

The agreement aims to maximize the efficiency of ship and fleet operations amid the rapid expansion and application of AI technologies across all aspects of vessel operation, including autonomous navigation, engine automation, optimal route implementation, and cargo transport efficiency.

Under the agreement, the HD Hyundai Group affiliates and H-Line Shipping will collaborate to develop AI software that minimizes fuel consumption and enhances operational safety.
