Hit webtoon 'Stagtown' to be made into film

Popular horror series "Stagtown" will be expanding from phone screens to the big screen with its own live-action adaptation, Naver Webtoon announced Wednesday.
"Stagtown" was discovered through Naver Webtoon’s global amateur creator platform, Canvas. Since its official 2021 serialization on the company's English-language platform Webtoon, the series gained significant popularity in North America, surpassing 18 million views. The story follows protagonist Frankie, who encounters supernatural phenomena upon returning to his hometown of Stagtown.
The film adaptation will be a collaboration between Wattpad Webtoon Studios, a Naver subsidiary focused on bringing popular intellectual properties to screen, and LuckyChap Entertainment, a production company founded by Australian actor and producer Margot Robbie. LuckyChap is best known for producing Hollywood blockbuster "Barbie," as well as "Promising Young Woman" and "Saltburn."
Benjamin Brewer, who was lead visual effects artist for "Everything Everywhere All at Once," will take on the roles of screenwriter and director for the "Stagtown" film.
“'Stagtown' has captivated North American fans with its unique horror narrative and stunning artwork. We’re excited to work with LuckyChap, known for its remarkable direction and adaptation expertise, and Benjamin Brewer, who is set to push the boundaries of the horror genre,” said Jason Goldberg, head of film at Wattpad Webtoon Studios, in a press release.
Since its establishment in 2021, Wattpad Webtoon Studios has been adapting popular webtoons and web novels into screen projects. Notable works in progress include an animated adaptation of "Lore Olympus" in partnership with The Jim Henson Company; "Death of a Pop Star," produced by Academy Award-winning writer Diablo Cody; and "Freaking Romance," a collaboration with Skybound Entertainment.
