FTC seeks to include calories, cholesterol facts in soju, beer labels

Soju, beer and all other alcoholic beverages sold in Korea may have to state calories, sugar, saturated fat, and cholesterol in nutrition facts label under the antitrust authority’s plan for regulatory revision to boost public awareness about their potential harm on health. A bottle of soju (360ml) has 408 kcal, nearly doubling a bowl of cooked rice (200g). Fair Trade Commission will make administrative notice on revision as early as next month and collect opinions from industry players to finalize the plan.
