A traffic accident killed one person and injured three others after a driver attempted to enter the Gyeongin Expressway at Bupyeong District, Incheon, via the highway’s exit ramp on Monday morning.
According to the Incheon Police Agency and Fire Headquarters, a compact car driven by a Chinese national in her 40s collided with a van after driving in the wrong direction through the exit ramp at Bupyeong Interchange at 5:20 a.m. on Monday.
Five additional vehicles collided into the initial crash site, including a one-ton cargo truck. The cargo truck driver, who was in his 70s, died at the scene, and three others were injured.
The accident also caused a two-hour traffic jam on the expressway.
Police believe that the driver mistook directions given by her navigation system and entered the highway exit ramp in the wrong direction.
A police official stated that they plan to investigate her further on charges of causing death under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents.
