And we start with our top headlines at this hour,


1.


Starting on Thursday,

South Korea will begin the Chuseok holiday period,

which has been extended to six days now that the 2nd of October has been designated a holiday, for this year only.


And with a longer break,

the number of people traveling is also expected to increase.


The government predicts a total of 40-point-2 million travelers

will be on the move between today and next Tuesday,

27 percent more compared to last year.


According to the Korea Transport Institute,

in terms of returning to their hometowns,

people prefer traveling in the morning hours of the day

before Chuseok, between 10 and 11 AM.


For the return trip,

people have expressed preference for the afternoon hours

on the day after Chuseok, which is Saturday, between 2 and 3 PM, as well as the afternoon on Sunday between 3 and 4 PM.


The institute expects

the most holiday period traffic congestion

the day of Chuseok itself as well as on the day after.


During the busiest hours,

it could take up to more than 10 hours to travel from Seoul to Busan by car, a journey that can usually be done in around 6 hours.


For returning to Seoul from Busan, it could take up to more than 8-and-a-half hours.


The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport decided to focus on several key aspects

including enhancing convenience for travelers,

expanding public transportation, and strengthening traffic safety.


To ease the traffic congestion,

the government is also going to waive highway toll fees for four days from Thursday.

Concerns over South Korea's population continue to grow

as the number of births saw a record low

while the number of deaths was the highest ever for the month of July.


And the number of marriages is also showing an up and down trend.


Data from Statistics Korea on Wednesday shows that the number of births in July came to 19-thousand-102, down 6-point-7 percent from the previous year.


That's the lowest figure on record for the month of July.


By area, Chungcheongbukdo Province was the only region that did not see the number of births decline compared to a year earlier.


And the number of deaths in July rose 8-point-3 percent on-year to 28-thousand-239,...the largest on record for the month of July.

Business sentiment in South Korea showed a slight recovery

on the back of high performance in the service sector.


According to the Bank of Korea on Wednesday,

the Business Survey Index in September for all industries rose to 73 points.

North Korea's ambassador to the UN slammed

South Korea and the U.S for provoking

"immediate danger of nuclear war"...

justifying...its nuclear and missile development for "self-defense".


South Korea's envoy to the UN called those remarks "groundless."


Addressing the U.N. General Assembly in New York,

North Korea's ambassador to the United Nations Kim Song

said on Tuesday,...

that the regime blames

both South Korea and the U.S. for attributing to the "current dangerous situation",...

slamming the allies' continuous moves to bolster deterrence against evolving North Korean threats.

The fourth day of the Asian Games is underway in Hangzhou, China.


South Korea added more golds yesterday

in fencing, taekwondo and judo.


And the South Korean swimming delegation has surpassed its

total medal tally from the 2018 games.


The country is currently in second place in the medal standings.


Moving to weather forecast,


Central parts of the country are having a rainy start.


On and off light rain will continue through tonight.


The east coast could see more than 40 millimeters,

while the rest of the country will see 5 to 10 millimeters of showers.


Afternoon highs will be 2 to 5 degrees higher than yesterday,

most of the southern regions will see highs in the upper twenties.


Seoul will be 25 degrees, Daegu at 27 degrees,

Busan and Jejudo Island will be 28 degrees.


There will be a gradual drop in temperatures during the holiday.

Morning lows will be around 17 degrees and the highs will be around 25 degrees.

But on Sunday the morning lows will drop to 13 degrees.


Highs will range between 25 and 28 degrees Celsius.


As for the highs, Seoul will be 25 degrees,

while Busan and Jejudo Island will be 28 degrees in the afternoon.

The current temperatures are:
