CEO Shin Won-chul
Sleepforest Inc., a South Korean company that provides solutions for insomnia, is set to introduce a new mobile application in November 2024 that is designed to help insomnia sufferers correct their sleeping habits.

“If you analyze the causes of insomnia, it ultimately comes down to bad habits,” Sleepforest CEO Shin Won-chul said during a recent interview with Maeil Business Newspaper. “I thought we needed a coach to help change those habits for better sleep.”

Shin noted that the new app, Good Night Doctor, is designed to help insomnia sufferers correct their sleep habits.

“It is difficult for them to improve on their own and the app will be a great aid in alleviating symptoms before they worsen to the point of needing hospital treatment.”

Shin is a neurologist and currently serves as the head of the Brain and Neuroscience Center at Kyung Hee University Hospital at Gangdong in Gangdong District, eastern Seoul.

He is also a former vice president of the Korean Sleep Research Society and is considered one of Korea’s leading sleep experts.

Driven by his patients’ struggles, he founded the Sleepforest in August 2022 with the motto, “Creating a world where everyone sleeps well.”

To analyze user data, the new app employs smartphone sensors such as motion and light sensors to monitor sleep patterns and circadian rhythms.

“Based on the measured data, the app automatically detects the user’s optimal sleep time and provides alarms and routines tailored to that schedule,” Shin said.

Shin is also a popular influencer who runs the YouTube channel, SLEEP Dr. Shin Won-chul’s Good Night Tube, which currently has around 90,000 subscribers.

“We plan to integrate an AI chatbot into the Good Night Doctor app that uses the questions and answers accumulated on our YouTube community,” Shin said. “Our goal is to link the app with our sleep-related shopping mall and ultimately create Korea’s largest sleep platform.”
