The government has issued a return-to-work deadline of February 29th

for trainee doctors who have staged walkouts from hospitals 

to protest an increase in medical school admissions.

Health Minister Cho Kyoo-hong in a briefing on Tuesday 

warned doctors of consequences if they do not comply with the government.

Prosecutors met with representatives from the police on Monday 

to strategize addressing the collective action 

taken by members of the medical community.

The Korean Medical Association criticized the government, 

saying that suspending licenses and taking legal action against residents 

would further worsen the situation 

and eliminate any chance of their return to hospitals.

Amid the ongoing standoff between the government and doctors, 

the KMA announced a massive rally planned for March 3, 

with 20-thousand doctors expected to attend.

As of Tuesday, 

80-point-5 percent of the nation's 13-thousand trainee doctors 

from 100 training hospitals nationwide, 

have handed in resignation letters.

The South Korean government 

is set to free 339 square kilometers of land 

from military installation protection zones for public and private development.

President Yoon Suk Yeol announced this on Monday 

at Seosan Airbase in Chungcheongnam-do Province 

while there for a policy discussion with citizens, 

explaining that the government considered the demands of the public 

while also keeping national security in mind.

Around the airbase alone, which is the country's biggest air force base, 

141 square kilometers will be freed from the military protection zone.

President Yoon added that with a new airport being built in the city of Seosan, and the lifting of protection zones, 

he hopes that the province can utilize the land to promote projects 

that the local government deems to be the best.

Moving on,

Seoul's Second Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs 

Kang In-sun reminded North Korea that 

its nuclear and missile programs were an immediate challenge 

to the international community and urged the regime to stop its provocations.

In a speech at the UN Conference on Disarmament 

held in Geneva on Monday,

Vice Minister Kang highlighted 

the North's illicit nuclear and missile programs, 

which she called "the most urgent task for international peace and security."

Europe's biggest mobile and telecommunications trade show is back.

The 2024 edition of the Mobile World Congress 

hosted in Barcelona every year, kicked off on Monday local time.

Among the firms unveiling their latest technology is South Korean tech giant, Samsung Electronics, 

with its new 'Galaxy Ring' that tracks health data in your sleep.

On the entertainment front.

HYBE, the management agency of BTS, 

has become the first Korean entertainment company 

to reach 2 trillion Korean won in annual revenue.

The company on Monday 

reported an annual revenue of 2-point-17 trillion won, 

which is around 1-point-63 billion U.S. dollars, 

and an operating profit of 2-hundred-22 million dollars for the year 2023.


Moving to the weather forecast, 

We are expecting a repeat of yesterday's weather in most places, 

there will be big temperature differences between lows and highs.

Temperatures in fact, stay in a similar range through Thursday 

but rain on the last workday of the week will bring a big drop in readings.

Now back to today's forecast, 

snow flurries in east of Gangwon-do this morning 

should let up but mountainous regions on Jeju will see 1 to 3 more centimeters of snow through late this afternoon.
