Samsung suspends SmartThings update after app bricks Galaxy devices

Samsung Electronics' Galaxy S10 and other older models have reported infinite bootloop errors after updating its SmartThings Framework app.
The Korean electronics giant on Thursday temporarily suspended the update of the smart home app and issued an official apology, pledging a swift fix.
“Galaxy S10 and other smartphones installed with previous versions of operating system (Android 12) have reported errors of being constantly rebooted while updating its SmartThings app to the newest version,” Samsung Electronics said in a post.
“We sincerely apologize to customers who experienced inconveniences. Updates have been instantly suspended after acknowledging issues in the SmartThings app, and we are running emergency work into the issue.”
“Customers who experienced the inconvenience can visit a nearby Samsung Electronics service center to get necessary assistance,” the post said.
Users of Galaxy smartphones running the Android operating system older than One UI 4.1 have recently reported reboot or screen-freezing issues after the SmartThings app had been upgraded to the newest version, according to online communities of Galaxy users.
Some users claimed that a list of connected home appliances on the SmartThings app got deleted while others claimed that saved data on the app got initialized after visiting the service center.
SmartThings, a smart home app of Samsung Electronics, enables users to manage home appliances and devices through a single app.
The Galaxy S10 launched in 2019 with the One UI 4.1 update.
Samsung Electronics' newest Galaxy smartphone is the S24 series, which launched earlier this year with the One UI 6.1 update.
