The cameras are no longer just watching the dancers. This time, they are watching the minds behind the moves.

Mnet’s new competition reality show, “Street World Fighter: Directors’ War,” turns the spotlight on 10 choreographers, following the creative decisions, conflicts and problem-solving that unfold long before a performance reaches the stage.

At a press conference Tuesday, director Choi Jung-nam said the series shifts focus to the people who shape performances behind the scenes.

“The previous ‘Street Fighter’ series focused on dancers’ individual skills or crew dynamics,” Choi said. “This time, cameras look into how choreographers devise movements, arrange formations and work with dancers to turn an idea into a finished piece.”

Choi described the show as a “battle of creative works,” with the 10 choreographers competing as performance directors rather than as members of dance crews.

“If ‘Street Woman Fighter 2’ was a battle of dance and physical performance, this competition is more of a mental battle,” said Bada, one of the contestants and leader of “Street Woman Fighter 2” champion Bebe.

Other contestants include Nain, leader of "Street Dance Girls Fighter" champion Turns, and Back Koo-young, a senior choreographer at 1MILLION and former SM Entertainment performance director. The three have experience creating major K-pop performances: Bada worked on Aespa's "Next Level," Nain on "Golden" from "KPop Demon Hunters," and Back on EXO's "Love Shot."

Choi said the show traces the decisions behind movements and concepts, allowing viewers to understand how a director's interpretation develops into the final performance.

Simeez, a LaChica member who has served as IVE's performance director since 2024, stressed that this was one of the show's biggest attractions.

"If you only look at the result, you cannot fully know what a director actually does," she said, adding that viewers will see how each director responds when unexpected problems arise.

The show also places weight on a director's credit, or formal recognition for overseeing a performance's overall creative direction, as contestants compete to earn that credit under their own names.

Ingyoo, a key choreographer of dance crew We Dem Boyz who has worked with acts including NCT and Stray Kids, said the show aims to improve public understanding of credits and, eventually, choreography copyright.

The program premiered at 10 p.m. Tuesday on Mnet and tvN, with exclusive elimination-stage content, titled “Last Stage 24hr,” released on Tving.

Contestants who survive the Tving stage can return to the main competition, linking the two formats into a single storyline.
