BTS’s RM, V complete military service, group reunion in sight

BTS members RM and V were officially discharged from South Korea’s mandatory military service on June 10, paving the way for the group’s full reunion.

After leaving their respective bases that morning, the two greeted fans at a soccer field in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province. RM, wearing sunglasses, marked the moment with a short saxophone performance, while V appeared holding bouquets, smiling and waving to cheering fans. The two exchanged a brief hug amid loud applause.

BTS drew global attention when all seven members enlisted, starting with eldest Jin. By December 2023, the entire group was serving in the military. RM and V both enlisted that month as active-duty soldiers. RM served in the Army’s 15th Division military band, while V was part of the 2nd Corps Military Police Special Task Force.

“We probably had one of the shortest military terms in history, and conditions have really improved,” RM said. “There were difficult moments, but service helped me understand how much our freedom to perform relies on those protecting the country. I’m thankful to the fans who waited. I’ll focus on the album and return to the stage soon.”

V added, “Military service gave me time to reflect on both my body and mind. I’m truly grateful to the fans who waited. I hope to repay your support soon—just a little more patience, and I’ll return with something great.” He also wished safety for soldiers still serving, saying, “I hope they complete their duties without injury. As for me, I’ll do my best to live as a better person out in the world.”

Hybe headquarters in Yongsan is decorated with BTS and ARMY logos and the message “We Are Back” on June 10. /Newsis

Following Jin and J-Hope’s earlier discharges, RM and V have now completed their service as the fourth and fifth members. Jimin and Jungkook are scheduled to return on June 11, with Suga set for June 21.

To mark the occasion, BTS’s management agency Hybe wrapped the exterior of its Yongsan headquarters with the official logos of the group and their fandom, ARMY, along with the message “We Are Back.” The display will remain through June 29 to celebrate BTS’s debut anniversary on June 13.

“All members are returning from military service and reuniting with fans,” Hybe said. “With Jin and J-Hope already active again, anticipation is growing for BTS’s group activities.”
