Ex-President Yoon attends screening of documentary on claims of election fraud

Former President Yoon Suk Yeol on Wednesday attended a screening of a controversial documentary alleging election fraud, in his first official outing other than attending court hearings since his impeachment in April.

Yoon visited a theater in Seoul’s Dongdaemun District to watch the film “Korean Election Fraud, God’s will?” When asked by reporters why he came, Yoon entered the auditorium without responding.

The documentary centers on claims of fraud in last year’s general election, during whic Yoon was president. It was co-produced by former KBS producer Lee Yeong-don and Jeon Han-gil, a former history teacher turned right-wing figure. Jeon told reporters he had invited Yoon to the screening. The two were seen sitting side by side.

Yoon, a conservative who recently gave up his People Power Party membership to aid ongoing presidential race, was impeached on April 4 by a unanimous decision of the Constitutional Court, which ruled his imposition of a short-lived martial law unconstitutional. He is currently on trial for insurrection and power abuse charges.

“Former President Yoon is a private citizen who has left our party. We have nothing to say about his schedule,” party spokesperson Shin Dong-wook told reporters in Yeouido.
