Jamsil Station remains Seoul’s busiest subway station in 2024
Jamsil Station is the busiest subway station in the Seoul Metro system in terms of daily users, recording the highest ridership with 156,177 per day, Seoul Metropolitan Government data showed Wednesday.
Among the 273 stations on Seoul Subway Line Nos. 1 to 8, Jamsil Station retained its position as the subway station with the highest passenger traffic for a second consecutive year.
Jamsil Station, located in Songpa-gu, eastern Seoul, has seen a continued surge in passengers due to the extension of the subway line from Amsa History Park Station to Byeollae Station, adding five more stations to garner more subway riders from Guri and Namyangju in Gyeonggi Province, according to the Seoul Metro.
Hongik University Station and Gangnam Station took the No. 2 and No. 3 slots, respectively, on Seoul Metro’s list of the top 10 stations by average daily ridership.
While Hongik University Station was used by 150,369 passengers per day, Gangnam Station was visited by 149,757 people per day.
In contrast, the least-used station was Dorimcheon Station on Line No. 2, with just 2,615 daily users.
The ridership for each station is based on the number of people who either entered or exited the metro system at the station.
The Seoul Metro explained Gimpo International Airport Station on Line Nos. 5 and 9 was one of the stations that recorded a significant increase in ridership compared to the previous year.
Ridership increased 27.9 percent on-year to almost 9.5 million passengers. The state-run subway company attributed the rise to increased inbound tourism in 2024.
As Seongsu-dong in eastern Seoul has become a popular destination for young adults and foreign tourists alike, especially those interested in fashion and beauty products, Seongsu Station also saw a major surge in the daily ridership, rising to 88,059 users per day.
The Seoul Subway transported a total of 2.41 billion passengers in 2024, an increase of 2.5 percent from 2023.
