Romania's presidential candidate Lasconi warns of possible Russian interference in presidential elections

USR party leader Elena Lasconi asked the Prosecutor's Office to take action and verify whether President Klaus Iohannis, Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu or PNL leader Nicolae Ciuca have information about ultra-nationalist party AUR (Alliance for the Union of Romanians) leader George Simion, which would indicate that he met with agents of the Russian secret service. Lasconi is a Romanian politician and a former TV journalist, currently serving as the mayor of Campulung Muscel city for a second term. The latest INSCOP poll shows that Marcel Ciolacu, the leader of the PSD and incumbent prime minister, is in first place in voting intentions for the first round of the 2024 presidential elections, with 25.3 percent, followed by George Simion (AUR) with 19.1 percent and Elena Lasconi (USR) with 14,3 percent. The ninth presidential election in Romania will be held on 24 November 2024, with a second round planned for 08 December 2024. The parliamentary elections will be held on 01 December 2024.
