Hyundai Glovis announced on Wednesday that it signed a land purchase agreement with Busan New Port Woongdong Development to build a comprehensive logistics facility in the second-phase hinterland zone of New Port’s Woongdong district. The company secured about 95,000 square meters of land - the equivalent of about 13 soccer fields - where it plans to construct a container yard and an integrated logistics center that it aims to complete by 2027.
Once operational, the Hyundai Glovis yard will enable high-capacity container storage, simplifying the import and export process due to the terminal’s proximity. The company said that the facility’s strategic location is expected to streamline inbound processes for export containers, enhancing efficiency for Korean exporters and the facility’s storage will provide a stable response to logistical disruptions, such as potential supply chain bottlenecks.
The company’s integrated logistics center will offer a one-stop service for imported goods, handling everything from inspection to storage. As Hyundai Glovis will directly operate the center, its layout and functions can be customized to meet the needs of client companies.
“With this extensive infrastructure at Busan’s New Port, which is the country’s largest port, we will bolster our competitive edge in ocean forwarding. The facility’s proximity to the under-development Jinhae New Port also presents potential for expansion,” a company spokesperson said.
Hyundai Glovis is broadening its focus beyond automotive parts to include electric vehicle batteries and refrigerated cargo. The company has plans to establish direct logistics centers at both ports and airports, with one of its flagship projects being a five-story logistics center under construction at Incheon International Airport’s second logistics complex, covering 44,420 square meters. Scheduled for completion in 2025, this facility will feature a dedicated sorting system and customs clearance area that will specifically cater to global e-commerce shipments.
