LG Electronics Inc. Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Cho Joo-wan recently met with Tenstorrent Inc. CEO Jim Keller to discuss collaboration on enhancing the South Korean company’s artificial intelligence (AI) semiconductor design capabilities.

LG Electronics announced on Tuesday that Cho met with Keller to discuss a potential strategic partnership.

The meeting was also attended by LG Electronics Chief Technology Officer Kim Byoung-hoon and Tenstorrent Chief Customer Officer David Bennett.

LG Electronics noted that the partnership is aimed at strengthening AI capabilities to achieve “empathetic intelligence,” which is in line with the company‘s vision for AI.

Tenstorrent is known for its RISC-V technology, an open-source central processing unit (CPU) technology that allows for flexible, customizable design without a fixed architecture.

Another technology it is known for is Tensix neural processing units (NPUs), which are optimized for running AI algorithms.

LG Electronics’ commitment to developing AI chip design technology stems from its assessment that the AI chip is a critical component as AI is increasingly integrated into its home appliances.

LG Electronics is currently focusing on chiplet technology, a modular approach that assembles smaller semiconductor units into a larger, adaptable system, enabling flexible applications across a range of uses.
