Com2uS returns to profit in Q3 thanks to strong game sales

Com2uS Corp reported a return to annual profit thanks to increased sales of its popular title, Summoners War: Sky Arena, and baseball games. The KOSDAQ-listed game developer announced on Thursday that its operating profit from July to September 2024 reached 1.4 billion won ($9.98 million), a significant gain from an operating loss of 1.4 billion won recorded during the same period in 2023.

Sales for the quarter totaled 172.8 billion won, a slight decrease of 1.8 percent compared to the previous year. Net profit, however, dropped by 91.5 percent to 970 million won, primarily due to reduced gains from the valuation of investment securities.

While sales from role-playing and casual games declined by 6.9 percent and 23.5 percent respectively, sports games, mainly baseball titles, rose by 7.4 percent, buoyed by exceptional popularity of the KBO League in 2024 to date. Sales of the flagship Summoners War, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, also showed annual growth.

International users were responsible for 69.1 percent of the sales generated by the game developer, with North America accounting for 28.2 percent, Asia for 24.4 percent, and Europe for 14.2 percent. Operating expenses totaled 127.4 billion won, marking a 2.9 percent increase year-over-year.

Looking ahead, Com2uS said a new baseball title has been under development to be released in Japan as soon as the first half of 2025. The game developer is also preparing a new MMORPG game entitled The Starlight.
