Samsung Electronics secured the top position in India’s smartphone market for the third quarter of 2024, achieving a sales revenue share of 22.8 percent, according to data released by Counterpoint Research on Sunday. This marks a slight increase from the 22.6 percent share recorded during the same period last year.

Apple followed closely with a 21.6 percent revenue share, reflecting a 0.2 percentage point decline from the previous year. Chinese brands Vivo, Oppo, and Xiaomi occupied the third to fifth positions, with revenue shares of 15.5 percent, 10.8 percent, and 8.7 percent, respectively, all showing on-year growth.

In terms of unit sales, Samsung accounted for 15.8 percent of the market, down from 17.2 percent a year earlier. Vivo and Xiaomi led in volume, capturing 19.4 percent and 16.7 percent of sales, respectively, driven by their focus on affordable models.

Despite a decline in overall sales volume, Samsung’s revenue leadership is attributed to increased sales of premium devices like the Galaxy S series. Counterpoint Research highlighted Samsung’s strategy of integrating advanced features into its mid-range Galaxy A series to encourage consumers to opt for higher-priced models.

The research firm also noted a 3 percent on-year increase in India’s total smartphone market revenue for the third quarter.
