Kim Min-jae’s Bayern Munich thrashed Jeong Woo-yeong’s Union Berlin 3-0 in the Bundesliga Korean derby at Allianz Arena in Munich, Germany, on Saturday.
Both Korean players started the fixture, which saw Bayern take the lead in the 15th minute thanks to a penalty from Harry Kane.
Kingsley Coman stretched that lead in the 43rd minute with a tidy shot inside the penalty area, ending the first half at 2-0.
The visitors failed to bounce back in the second half and conceded another goal by Kane, who capitalized on a pass from Coman in the 51st minute to seal the team's 3-0 victory.
Saturday’s win puts Bayern at 23 points, three points clear at the top of the league table as of press time Sunday.
The Bundesliga giants have seen an impressive start to the 2024-25 season under new manager Vincent Kompany, having recorded seven wins and two draws out of the opening nine league fixtures.
As for Berlin, Saturday’s loss was their second in the league this season, putting them in seventh place on the 18-team table with four wins, three draws and two losses.
Jeong has been a regular midfielder pick for Berlin this season, having played eight matches, but he has only scored one goal so far.
Defender Kim, who did not play often in the second half of last season under then-manager Thomas Tuchel, has also been a regular pick for Bayern, having already played 14 matches across all competitions this season.
Bayern have a busier schedule this season due to the Champions League, where they have picked up one win and two losses. Their latest Champions League match ended with a 4-1 loss to FC Barcelona on Oct. 23.
Bayern will be back in action on Nov. 6 as they face Benfica in the Champions League, while Berlin will face Freiburg on Nov. 8 in the Bundesliga.
