Israel holds its first official Bedouin camel race in the Negev desert

Camel racing, a popular activity among countries in the Middle East and particularly among the Bedouin community, has been for years illegal in Israel for violating its Animal Protection Law, with police thwarting many illegal camel races in the region, one of the most recent ones in early October 2024 in the Negev Desert. On 01 November the Bedouin community in the Negev Desert, in cooperation with government entities, organized an official 12-kilometer camel race with the participation of 40 Bedouin camel riders and thousands of Bedouins gathering to watch the event.
