(HD Hyundai OCI)
HD Hyundai OCI, a petrochemical subsidiary of HD Hyundai Oilbank, announced on Monday that it began supplying Hankook Tire & Technology with recycled carbon black made from end-of-life tires. The initiative is part of a broader effort to promote a circular economy.

The process starts with HD Hyundai Oilbank, which produces slurry oil by pyrolyzing used tires. HD Hyundai OCI then refines this oil into recycled carbon black, an essential material in tire manufacturing that enhances rubber elasticity while also serving as a reinforcing and coloring agent. By replacing petroleum-based raw materials with recycled alternatives, the initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainability in the tire industry.

This development emerged from a circular economy consortium led by Hankook Tire, HD Hyundai Oilbank, and HD Hyundai OCI, which seeks to establish a sustainable model for using discarded tires to produce new ones.

The consortium represents the collective efforts of 13 companies and organizations in South Korea, all working to meet the global demand for sustainable raw materials and carbon-neutral practices.
