Apple’s iPhone now equipped with call recording, other AI tools

Apple Inc. has officially launched its new artificial intelligence (AI) service, introducing features such as call recording, message summarization, and keyword-based photo searches.

Apple announced on Monday that its iOS 18.1 update includes select Apple Intelligence features.

The service will only be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the upcoming iPhone 16 series.

Currently, the AI tools support only English, requiring users to set Siri and their device language to U.S. English in settings.

Apple has confirmed that Korean language support will be added by April next year.

One of the main features of Apple Intelligence is a writing assistant that allows users to have their texts automatically revised, summarized, or rewritten.

This tool can adjust the tone of messages to match specific needs, whether the user prefers a friendly or professional style.

It also supports template-based writing, helping compose emails or short messages based on predefined formats.

The update also introduces a keyword search function that makes it easier to find specific photos and videos. Users can input phrases such as “photo at the top of a mountain in a fall jacket,” and the AI will filter and present relevant images or videos.

Another feature, called Clean Up, allows users to remove unwanted objects from photos with just a few taps.

In a first for Apple, the company has added a call recording function.

When recording begins during a call, the other party is notified. Once the call ends, the AI summarizes the key points, providing a quick overview of the conversation.

Siri has also been upgraded, now capable of recognizing context more effectively to enable smoother, more natural interactions with users.

Despite these new features, some highly anticipated capabilities are still missing.

Apple announced earlier that ChatGPT integration with Siri, as well as a feature that generates custom emojis based on user prompts, will be introduced later this year.
