LG Uplus’ ‘6G Vision White Paper’. (LG Uplus)
LG Uplus announced on Wednesday that it published a white paper titled “6G White Paper - Non-Terrestrial Networks,” which outlines potential advancements in 6G communication. The release is a follow-up to the company’s “6G Vision White Paper” published in 2023 and expands on the role of non-terrestrial networks (NTNs) in global connectivity.

The white paper explores how communication satellites in low Earth orbit (LEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), and geostationary orbit (GEO) can support seamless worldwide communication. These NTNs would extend beyond traditional ground-based networks, using satellites, unmanned aerial vehicles, and high-altitude platform stations (HAPS) to establish an integrated communication infrastructure across both air and space.

If they are commercialized, NTNs are expected to overcome the challenges of altitude and distance in telecommunications, enabling new services such as urban air mobility (UAM) and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The document also predicts that the 6G era will see the rise of “satellite data centers,” which will merge satellite technology with edge computing to enhance data processing capabilities.

The full contents of the 6G white paper are available on the official LG Uplus blog.
