Hyundai Motor will release the electric version of its hit Creta compact SUV in India, the first Hyundai EV fully produced in the country, in January 2025.
The automaker will also introduce four additional electric vehicles to India by 2030, it said in a news release Monday.
Shares of Hyundai Motor India's initial public offering, set to be the country's largest ever, open Tuesday, with the company aiming to raise as much as $3.3 billion.
Hyundai Motor India had sold 602,111 total vehicles on its home turf as of 2023 and boasts a 14.6 percent market share, making it the second largest carmaker in the country.
The Creta, first unveiled in 2015, is Hyundai Motor’s first SUV designed specifically for the Indian market. The model, which markets itself for having higher ground clearance and longer legroom than competitors in the small SUV segment as well as convenience features like integrated air purifiers, was the No. 1 selling SUV in the country for the three consecutive months following its release. Creta was also chosen as the Indian Car Of The Year (ICOTY) in 2016.
After Hyundai Motor’s Pune factory starts production in late 2025, the company will have the capacity to produce up to 1 million vehicles a year.
