Global automakers are going all-out to show off their latest electric vehicle (EV) models at the Paris Motor Show that kicked off on Monday.

European automakers, in particular, are engaged in efforts to maintain their presence in their home ground as Chinese peers trail closely behind.

French auto brands, including Renault and Peugeot, and other European automakers such as BMW and Volkswagen, joined the event.

Chinese brands such as BYD, GAC, and Leapmotor also unveiled their latest models at this year’s show.

Europe has become a prime target for Chinese automakers.

According to the European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA), Chinese cars accounted for 21.7 percent of the European market last year, up from 2.9 percent in 2020. In 2022, the EU imported 359,271 vehicles from China.

In response to the growing presence of Chinese auto manufacturers, European brands unveiled a range of small-sized electric vehicles tailored for their home market.

Renault took the spotlight with the global debut of the Renault 4 E-Tech, the company’s eighth all-electric vehicle.

Peugeot revealed E-408, a fastback-inspired hatchback available with an all-electric motor.

Korea’s Hyundai Motor Group also made a notable appearance with Kia Corp.’s debut of its compact electric EV3.
