KT, Microsoft collaborate to enhance public cloud security

South Korea’s mobile carrier KT Corp. and Microsoft Corp. have partnered up to introduce specialized servers capable of processing encrypted data on MS’s cloud computing platform as part of their efforts to provide highly safe cloud services to the public and financial sectors.

According to sources familiar with the partnership on Sunday, KT and MS recently agreed to bring servers with specialized central processing units (CPUs) to Korea in a move to provide confidential computing services to be available for Korean companies and users hosted by Azure.

Confidential computing refers to cloud computing technology that can isolate data in a protected CPU enclave during processing. The contents of the enclave are accessible only to authorized programming codes and are invisible and unknowable to anything or anyone else, including the cloud provider.
