Fans have been visiting Han Kang's residence and her independent bookstore in Seochon in Jongno District, central Seoul, over the weekend, hoping to catch a glimpse of the Nobel Prize laureate. However, the front gate of her hanok (traditional Korean home) remains shut, and her bookstore, Onul Books, is also temporarily closed. The bookstore, which opened in 2018 and has been in its current location since 2023, announced Friday on its Instagram account that it will be temporarily closed, forecasting large numbers of fans congregating in the area.

Though they could not see the author, fans have been leaving flowers and letters behind at her home and her bookstore since Friday.

Han won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature, the Swedish Academy announced Thursday. Han, best known for "The Vegetarian" (2007), is the first Korean to win a Nobel Prize in Literature.
