Rookie group Bewave wants to 'Be Your Wave' in its first single

Riding the wave of Korea’s record-breaking summer, which just ended a few weeks ago, rookie girl group Bewave has returned to the K-pop scene, seeking to make a splash with its first single, "Be Your Wave."

Riding the wave of Korea’s record-breaking summer, which just ended a few weeks ago, rookie girl group Bewave has returned to the K-pop scene, seeking to make a splash with its first single, "Be Your Wave."

"Our goal was to capture the exhilarating emotions and shared experiences of youth," the group members said during a showcase on Thursday at the Ilchi Art Hall in southern Seoul. "We combined the keywords 'exhilaration' and 'shared emotion' to create an album that would evoke the cherished memories of one's youth."

Bewave debuted in April with its EP "Be;Wave." The group, under GoldDust Entertainment, consists of six members: Jiun, Yunseul, Zena, Ain, Gowoon and Japanese member Lena. Its new album "Be Your Wave" is a fusion of J-pop and rock music, with the lead track "Hard to Get to You" setting the album's overall tone.

"We wanted the choreography to feel like watching a musical, as if the song were part of a novel or film," said member Yunseul. "We focused on facial expressions and tried to convey the various nuances of exhilaration."

"The album captures the beautiful and exhilarating emotions of youth," Ain said. "The lead track features a catchy rhythm with a band [rock] sound."

“It's a song we've been listening to since before our debut, and all the members love it,” Jiun said when asked about the lead track. "We've been eagerly waiting to release this song and are curious to hear what our fans would think. We hope people will listen to it while driving or whenever they have a chance."

The album consists of three tracks — "Hard to Get to You," "Never Lose You Again" and the instrumental version of the lead track. The instrumental "continues the narrative of the lead track, about finally reaching someone and never wanting to let go,” according to Yeseul.

Now into its sixth month in the K-pop scene, the group aims to reach to a larger audience.

"We haven't had the opportunity to promote overseas yet, but we hope to meet global fans and show them what we can do,” Zena said,

"I want to perform on the main stage of Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival,” Jiun added.
