Forever Chemicals: US dairy farmer’s ‘nightmare’

Dairy farmer Fred Stone, owner of Stoneridge Farm in nearby Arundel, was provided wastewater sludge from the state of Maine that came from this facility and a second facility in Kennebunk, Maine. Years later, Stone was alerted that his hay, soil, cows and milk were all contaminated with PFAS and the wastewater sludge was the source of the contamination. Stone has been struggling to keep his PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) contaminated farm in business and making it safe again, a nearly impossible task.
