POSCO backs EPD certification for 13 Jeonju SMEs

South Korean builder POSCO E&C Co. will expand the use of eco-friendly ready-mix concrete in collaboration with small and medium-sized ready-mix concrete companies in Jeonju, North Jeolla Province.

According to POSCO E&C on Thursday, the company signed a business agreement with 13 small and medium-sized ready-mixed concrete companies in Jeonju, including Daeyeon Concrete and Seoji Ready-mixed Concrete, the previous day to support them in obtaining the “Environmental Product Declaration (EPD)” certification.

The agreement was signed at the 4th field office of Jeonju Eco City The Shop in the presence of the city’s government officials.

The EPD certification system, established by the Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute under the Ministry of Environment, provides accurate and transparent environmental information about products and services to help consumers make informed eco-friendly purchasing decisions.

Under the agreement, POSCO E&C will cover part of the costs associated with obtaining the EPD certification, while the small ready-mix concrete companies will achieve the certification by the first half of 2025, with consulting support.

POSCO E&C expects that the partnership will promote the widespread adoption of EPD certification among local small and medium-sized ready-mix concrete companies, leading to an increased supply of eco-friendly ready-mix concrete for POSCO E&C’s apartment projects in the Jeonju area.

The company is also supporting eco-friendly certifications for building finishing materials. It plans to gradually expand the range of products eligible for its eco-friendly certification support moving forward.
