(Hanwha Corporation E&C Division)
Hanwha Corp.’s engineering and construction (E&C) division has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Korea University’s Sejong Eco Up Innovation Convergence University Initiative and ECO E&O to collaborate on wastewater treatment technology, the company said on Thursday.

The MOU focuses on research and development of the PRO-MBR method, which uses a pre-coagulation-based flocculation control system for advanced sewage treatment technology.

The PRO-MBR technology, recognized as both an environmental and green technology, consolidates all sewage treatment processes into one system, offering high cost-efficiency.

Hanwha Corp.’s E&C division is currently working on sewage treatment plants in Daejeon and Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province, with plans to begin construction on another facility in Pyeongtaek, Gyeonggi Province.

The projects will utilize the PRO-MBR method, which was developed in-house by Hanwha.

The signing ceremony took place on Wednesday at the Sejong Convention Center in South Chungcheong Province.

Attendees included Hanwha Corp. E&C division’s Infrastructure Business Division Head Lee Joon-myung; Korea University Sejong Eco Up Innovation Convergence University Initiative Up Deputy Director Kim Young-jin; and ECO E&O Director Cho Yong-joo.

ECO E&O, a subsidiary of Hanwha responsible for managing environmental facilities and renewable energy projects, will oversee the operations of the large-scale sewage treatment plants under construction in Daejeon, Cheonan, and Pyeongtaek.
