(SHLab)
South Korea’s SHLab announced on Sunday that it has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) technology to prevent potential accidents during work inside ready-mix concrete mixers.

The technology employs AI image recognition to monitor the entry and exit of workers inside mixers used in ready-mix concrete production.

When a worker enters the equipment, the system automatically cuts off the power supply to prevent potential casualties.

Previously, skilled employees had to visually check the electrical current entering the mixer and monitor internal video footage while producing ready-mix concrete.

SHLab’s unmanned production system enables uniform production, reduces manufacturing losses, and lowers production costs. It is also expected to improve profits.

As interest grows among ready-mix concrete manufacturers globally for AI technology and autonomous production systems, SHLab is currently in cooperation agreements with Asia Cement Group and Samyang Remicon Co.

“After equipping ready-mix concrete manufacturing sites with unmanned facilities, we aim to change the paradigm of the ready-mix concrete manufacturing industry by applying AI technology to smart logistics as well,” said SHLab CEO Lee Won-gok.
