South Korea’s Lotte Energy Materials Corp. announced on Monday that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with ISU Petasys Co. at Lotte World Tower in Jamsil, southeastern Seoul, on Friday to supply ultra-low profile (ULP) copper foil, a key material for artificial intelligence (AI) and network printed circuit boards (PCBs).

The demand for high-performance, multi-layer PCB products is currently growing as the technical complexity of equipment requiring high-speed data transmission, such as AI accelerators, servers, and routers, increases. The importance of key materials such as ULP copper foil, which minimizes signal loss and incorporates nano-surface treatment technology, is thus also on the rise.

Under this agreement, the duo will supply high-value-added products for AI and network PCBs to global information technology (IT) companies, based on a closely coordinated supply chain management (SCM) system.

“The core of this MOU is to produce and supply high-value-added products through strategic collaboration with ISU Petasys, the only network PCB manufacturer in Korea,” Lotte Energy Materials Chief Executive Officer Kim Yeon-seop said. “We aim to strengthen our competitiveness in the network PCB market and solidify our SCM system to help our customers expand their product supply to global big-tech companies via this partnership.”
