Tottenham Hotspur captain Son Heung-min picked up his first and second assists of the 2024-25 season during his side’s 3-1 win over Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday.
Spurs conceded the opening goal even before some fans at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London found their seats, allowing Bryan Mbeumo to get on the scoresheet 23 seconds after kickoff.
Tottenham quickly leveled with a goal from Dominic Solanke in the eighth minute. Son imposed himself on the match in the 28th minute, feeding the ball to Brennan Johnson, who finished the job inside the penalty box to make it 2-1.
Spurs held onto the lead through the halftime break and added one more goal in the 80th minute, with Son making a tidy pass to James Maddison, who scored with a chip shot to seal three points.
Son’s two assists come in his fifth league match of the season, having racked up two goals and two assist so far.
Saturday’s win is Tottenham’s second league victory of the campaign after their first win over Everton last month in which Son scored a double.
Spurs have recorded two wins, one draw and two losses to sit in 10th place on the 20-team table as of press time Sunday.
Saturday’s fixture did not turn out to be a Korean derby between Son and Brentford defender Kim Ji-soo, who stayed on the bench the whole time.
Kim, 19, is one of three Korean players in the Premier League alongside Son and Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Hwang Hee-chan.
Kim has yet to make his Premier League debut, although he made his first appearance for Brentford in the Carabao Cup on Sept. 17 after joining the club in June last year and being promoted to the A team this June ahead of the 2024-25 campaign.
Brentford sit in 12th place with two wins and three losses this season.
Spurs will be back in action in a Europa League match against Qarabag FK at home on Sept. 26, while Brentford will face West Ham in the league in London on Sept. 28.
