Defendants attend trial for 'coup attempt' at a military court in Kinshasa

The military court is due to rule on the 'coup attempt' that the Democratic Republic of Congo army says it foiled in May 2024. Some 51 individuals, including three Americans, are on trial for attempting to overthrow the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo on 19 May 2024. Six people were killed during the attempted coup including the suspected leader of the plot, Christian Malanga. They are charged with 'attack, terrorism, illegal possession of weapons and war munitions, attempted assassination, criminal association, murder and financing of terrorism', according to the military court president.
