tvN’s new period drama “Jeongnyeon: The Star is Born,” starring actors Kim Tae-ri and Shin Ye-eun, will also debut on Disney+ on Oct. 12, the same day as its first broadcast, the streaming platform said Tuesday.
An adaptation of the webtoon of the same name, the series revolves around Jeongnyeon, who aims to become the top gukgeuk actor right after the Korean War (1950-53) in the 1950s. Gukgeuk is an all-female Korean musical theater genre.
The series is directed by Jung Ji-in, who was behind MBC’s hit historical drama “The Red Sleeve” (2021), and features actor Kim Tae-ri as Jeongnyeon, Shin as Youngseo, Ra Mi-ran as Sobok, Jung Eun-chae as Okgyeong and Kim Yoon-hye as Hyerang.
The series will be broadcast every Saturday and Sunday on tvN and will be uploaded to the streaming platform on the same days.
The upcoming series will mark the returns of both Kim Tae-ri and Shin to television after a year. Kim's last appearance was in the SBS series "Revenant" (2023), which ended in July last year, while Shin last appeared in SBS' "The Secret Romantic Guesthouse" (2023), which ended in May of the same year.
Actor Jung recently appeared in the second season of AppleTV+’s series “Pachinko,” which premiered last month.
