SmartThings, a cloud platform offered by Samsung Electronics Co. to connect and control multiple devices, recorded 350 million users as of August 2024, according to an announcement from the Samsung Electronics Newsroom on Friday. More than 340 brands are in the list of connectable devices.

Samsung Electronics acquired SmartThings Inc., an American home automation company, in 2014 and turned the tech firm into a system that connects not only its gadgets but also those of its partners to offer a seamless, connected experience tailored to customers‘ lifestyles.

It introduced Calm Onboarding, an integrated solution that simplifies the connection process with SmartThings, in 2023. The solution checks shipping details, automatically registers devices, and manages maintenance post-purchase. The company also launched Map View, allowing users to create a virtual layout of their home to easily control devices by space.

The company held a press conference on Thursday ahead of IFA 2024, Europe’s largest consumer electronics fair in Berlin, Germany. There, it will showcase SmartThings, Bixby Voice, and AI Home as key examples of how innovative artificial intelligence applications shape the way people live their lives.
