Shinsegae Department Store is ramping up its premium carpet business to expand its market share in the rapidly growing luxury living sector, a trend that surged following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shinsegae announced on Thursday that it opened a pop-up store, The Luxury Rug House, on the 9th floor of its Gangnam branch‘s living specialty section.

The store, which runs until October 2, showcases the Jaipur Rugs collection, a handmade carpet brand founded in 1978 and the largest of its kind in India.

Produced entirely by hand, the carpets are crafted by 40,000 weaving artisans across India using a 2,500-year-old traditional method.

From weaving and dyeing to intricate crafting that gives the carpets their distinctive patterns and three-dimensional textures, every step is done by hand, adding to their uniqueness and value.

The Jaipur Rugs collection is exported to over 60 countries in North America and Europe, with seven flagship stores in global cities such as Milan, London, and Dubai.

The rugs on display at the pop-up store are priced between 400,000 won ($300) and 80 million won, depending on size, material, and weaving technique.

The Luxury Rug House is designed to reflect the scenery of Jaipur, India, known as the Pink City for its abundance of pink buildings.
