KT Corp. announced on Thursday that it will participate in the development of an AI-based psychological care service under a project led by South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and the National IT Industry Promotion Agency (NIPA).

The company is forming a consortium with six organizations, including Hanyang University, Hanyang University Hospital, Seongdong District Mental Health Welfare Center, and the Korea Association for Suicide Prevention (KASP).

They plan to develop AI-powered mental health services with the help of medical experts specializing in cognitive neuroscience, behavioral research, and psychiatry.

The project will utilize an AI-powered mental health management platform, enhanced by KT and Hanyang University’s Digital Healthcare Center.

This platform allows users to easily check their mental health status and manage their well-being through personalized content like webtoons, meditation, and games, based on the results of self-assessments.

For high-risk users, the platform also recommends nearby psychological counseling centers or medical facilities.

KT said it also plans to further refine its multimodal AI technology to predict and assess users’ mental health conditions.
