Samsung announced on Wednesday that the health data measured by its Galaxy Watch has been validated for accuracy via collaborative research with the University of Michigan’s Human Performance & Sport Science Center.

The study conducted by the center compared data collected from the Galaxy Watch with professional clinical equipment, focusing on heart rate, sweat loss estimates, maximum oxygen consumption, and body fat percentage. The research found a statistically significant correlation between the data from the watch and the specialized equipment used in clinical settings.

One of the key findings was that heart rate measurements taken during running exercises showed a 90 percent correlation between the Galaxy Watch and an electrocardiogram (ECG) machine, a professional tool used to measure heartbeats.

In another experiment, sweat loss estimates were compared over distances ranging from 2.5 km to 20 km. The results revealed a 95 percent correlation between the Galaxy Watch’s readings and those from the specialized sweat loss measurement equipment.
