Samsung SDS CEO Hwang Sung-woo said at the annual “REAL Summit 2024” conference in Seoul’s COEX on Tuesday, that Samsung’s cloud platform has been evolving to run applications like copilots and AI agents more cost-effectively. He hinted at a new GPU-centric Samsung cloud platform, which could be described as an AI operating system, set to be introduced in 2025.
Last year, Samsung SDS unveiled its generative AI platform “FabriX” and the AI-powered collaboration tool “Brity Copilot” at REAL Summit’s 2023 edition. A year later, the company plans to advance these services to the agent stage and optimize its cloud infrastructure for AI.
“We will develop Samsung’s cloud platform into a GPU-focused AI cloud to make generative AI more accessible to enterprise customers,” Hwang emphasized.
Over 100 companies have adopted Samsung SDS’s generative AI services as of September 2024, with more than 150,000 users actively using the platform. Samsung SDS is focusing on strengthening its AI cloud capabilities and fostering partnerships with major global tech companies.
Partners including Michael Dell, Chairman of Dell Technologies, and Mark Souza, Corporate Vice President and CTO of Microsoft Asia, who participated via video, along with Jerry Chen, who leads business development at NVIDIA for Manufacturing & Industrials, delivered keynote speeches during the REAL Summit.
NVIDIA announced plans to deepen its collaboration with Samsung’s cloud platform to support the GPU-based AI cloud, while Souza highlighted Microsoft’s commitment, stating, “We will soon operate Samsung SDS’s FabriX on a global scale through Microsoft Azure.”
Hwang added that Samsung SDS aims to deploy FabriX as a Platform as a Service (PaaS) on Azure, with a potential launch as early as October 2024.
Samsung SDS also unveiled a new feature of Brity Copilot called “Personal Agent” at the event. This service acts as a “personal assistant,” using individual work data to manage schedules, provide task briefings, and recommend prioritized to-dos based on urgency.
