South Korea’s Cosmax Inc., a leading cosmetics original development manufacturer (ODM), announced on Monday that it has received government approval for totaraxin, its new acne-relief ingredient.

This latest addition brings Cosmax’s portfolio of proprietary raw materials to three, making it the first company in the cosmetics industry to develop more than three non-notified ingredients.

Totaraxin is derived from the Totara tree, a native conifer of New Zealand known for its powerful antibacterial properties, historically used by the indigenous Maori people to treat ailments like fever and cholera.

Cosmax has developed a proprietary extraction process that yields totaraxin with over 98 percent purity, ensuring its efficacy in treating acne.

Clinical trials conducted by Cosmax have demonstrated that totaraxin effectively reduces sebum production and targets acne-causing bacteria.
