Indonesia prepares for historic apostolic visit of Pope Francis

Indonesia is gearing up for Pope Francis's Apostolic Visit from 03 to 06 September. As the second-largest Muslim-majority country in the world, Indonesia is home to approximately 8.6 million Catholics, or 3.1 percent of the population as of February 2024, according to data from the Ministry of Home Affairs. During his visit, Pope Francis is expected to meet with interfaith leaders at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta, the largest mosque in Southeast Asia, to promote peace and dialogue among different religious communities. He will also meet with Indonesian President Joko Widodo and lead a mass prayer with 80,000 worshippers at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium.
