Army private dies after collapsing during morning run

An Army private died on Friday after collapsing during a morning run at his base in Paju, Gyeonggi.

An Army private died on Friday after collapsing during a morning run at his base in Gyeonggi.

According to a report from Yonhap News Agency on Friday, the soldier fainted during an outdoor morning exercise at around 8 a.m. at a military base in Paju, Gyeonggi.

Although the soldier was transported to a nearby hospital by paramedics, he was later pronounced dead.

The report said the military officers ordered the soldiers to participate in a morning exercise instead of the usual afternoon exercise due to a summertime heat wave, which broils the ground the most in the afternoon.

Military police are investigating the details and background of the incident.
