Only 61 South Korean companies were listed in the top 2,000 companies in the world announced by Forbes, according to recent data.

The Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry analyzed Forbes 2024 Global 2000 List and learned that 61 Korean companies were in the list this year, ranking sixth after the United States with 621 companies, China with 280 companies, Japan with 181 companies, India with 71 companies and the United Kingdom with 66 companies. There were 16 new Korean entrants.

The top position in the list was held by JPMorgan Chase & Co., followed by Berkshire Hathaway Inc., Saudi Arabian Oil Co., Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), and Bank of America Corp.

In addition to Samsung Electronics Co. at No. 21, other global giants in the top 50 include Amazon.com Inc., Microsoft Corp., and Alphabet Inc.

Most Korean companies remained in the lower ranks. Of the 61 listed companies, only 9, including Samsung Electronics, Hyundai Motor Co., Kia Corp., KB Financial Group, and Shinhan Financial Group, were in the top 500, accounting for 14.7 percent of the total.

This share is lower than that of Germany, which had fewer listed companies at 50. The percentage of companies ranked between 1,001 and 2,000 was 60.7 percent, the highest among major countries.
